Kids' Program     Ages 6-10

The kids' program is relatively new at the Chain of Lakes Karate Club.  It is a program designed specifically for kids who are a little too young to participate in the main adult class, but still want to learn karate.

Kids

The kids' class is held at the same times as the adult class during the week, and is taught by a combination of Sensei Ben Madsen and assistant student instructor Joshua Jordi.

This program offers kids a chance to learn the fundamentals of traditional Shorin-Ryu Karate in a safe and fun environment, with other kids in the same age range.  The curriculum for this program is designed to be both fun and challenging; consisting of warm-up exercises, stretching, karate techniques, partner exercises, kata, grappling (wrestling), and sparring.  The curriculum is is based on the uniform curriculum of the OSMKKF, but has been limited to the elements which are more easily understood by younger students.  Teaching students in this manner prepares them to one day join the adult class with a good foundation and understanding of the basics of this system of karate.

Kids Sparring

Among the many things that students of this program will learn are:

The history of karate        Okinawan culture        Self-defense skills

Coordination        Focus        Self-esteem        Confidence

Respect       Honesty        Goal Setting        Sportsmanship

and many others.

Kids' Program Schedule

Classes are held in the back gym area of MC Fitness in Fairmont.

Tuesdays and Thursdays     6:30 - 7:30pm

Costs and Fees for the Kids' Program

Since the kids' program meets less, and for shorter periods of time, the fees associated with this class are also less.  The cost per month for a single student is $30.  The cost for two students is $50.

There will also be test fees that go along with certain ranks.  Because of the way that the curriculum has been designed, official rank certificates from Okinawa will not be awarded at every rank.  Rather, students will receive belts and certificates from the Chain of Lakes Karate Club at each rank, and Okinawan certificates at certain key ranks.  Each one of these tests will be $30-35.

Other expenses associated with this class are the same as the adult class.  They are outlined in this site's "costs and fees" page.
